I could tell that she was desperate for a model herself but could see that she didn't want to ask, so as a little Christmas suprise from me to her, I made a little model of her too!

Fondant Friends... Continued
A friend from work asked if I could make her sister and brother in-law out of fondant icing so she could give them as Christmas gifts. When I took them in and handed them over she was over the moon...

Super Cute Knitted Headband
My gorgeous friend Kelly said to me "Wend, do you reckon you could knit me a cute headband with a bow?". Naturally I replied "Of course. Leave it with me"
What I actually meant was, 'leave it with me and I will knit you a pretty headband'. What I didn't mean was, 'I will knit one and leave it with me and not give it to you'. Sadly as I don't see her too often, that's what happened.
The story has a happy ending though... Kelly knitted herself one at the same time anyway :)
Now where did I put my scissors? I really must cut my fringe...

Creating icing run outs can be a challenge.
Contending with a wobbly hand or table, taking great care not to knock or touch it while it's setting and then having to wait days to see if it will dry out fully is frustrating but when it works, the results can be lovely and are perfect for putting on a cake...

Great advice - Art or graffiti?
I saw some graffiti on the wall of a side street roday and I got to thinking;
When does graffiti become art?
What is art?
Is it when the creator has a motive or a reason behind the work?
Is it when the audience viewing the work likes what they see?
People are continually challenging the boundries of art.
We only have to look at the work of controversial conceptual artist Damien Hirst to see examples of people (artists?) challenging the concept of art by using sometimes shocking methods.
Do 'artists' feel the need to challenge art or is the work they create something they believe in?
Or does this vary artist to artist?
When we look at expressionist artist Jackson Pollock, in my opinion there are signs of an art challenger!
Pollock created paintings in a way that people had never really seen before.
Was he an innovator or an art challenger?
Should we stop looking for answers or is that just human nature and something we will never allow ourselves to do?
If I stand in a museum and switch a light on and off while people are watching, would this be art?
If the answer is 'yes' then is it still art if I do the same thing in my own home?
Is everything in the confines of the museum walls classed as art?
Should we be told that something is art?
Surely we should all decide for ourselves what we feel is artistic and not be told what to think?
Does art have to be something we enjoy looking at or experiencing or can it be art even if we don't like it?
Is art only art if it evokes an emotion, be it positive or even negative?
Does art have to make the viewer feel something for it to become art?
Science and knowledge can proove certain things, but the question of art cannot be so easily defined.
So many questions and I don't think there will ever be an answer.
In summery, in my opinion...
Art is whatever you want it to be regardless of it's confines and it's beauty or lack of.
So here is the art/graffiti that prompted my many questions...
The creator / artist wanted to send a message.
This wasn't just mindless scribbling.
The artist had a stencil and thought about what he / she was doing before putting ink to wall.
It wasn't something that they did with no motive or thought.
I wish I could find out who put this message on that wall, or maybe the mystery is the interesting thing!
Why this message? Why this wall?
I think it's especially interesting the way such encouraging and positive words are painted in such a dark and contradictory fashion.
Do you think this is art?
Do you have answers to my otherwise un answered questions above?

Others may view it as inspirational and misunderstood.Do 'artists' feel the need to challenge art or is the work they create something they believe in?

The big 3-0
So I'm having a 30th Birthday get together with my closest friends and family in the summer and I decided make my own invitations.
I ran through a few ideas in my head before settling on the idea of using crochet '30's' and with help from the amazing and inspirational crochet artist Howie Woo (http://www.woowork.com/) I made crochet tubes, inserted pipe cleaners and voila... bendy numbers to stick on my home made invitations!
Each invite is slightly different. Can you see yours?

Spin me right round like a record baby
While working in Mallorca in 2004 - 2008, my man and I would always listen to music by Journey whilst driving around the beautiful island descovering stunning areas where only the locals go.
Now with The X Factor and Glee covering 'Don't Stop Believing', originally released in 1981, Journey have now gained a new fan base; I would like to point out at this point that my chap has liked them for years and introduced them to me before their new found popularity!
For his birthday this year, I managed to get 2 tickets to see them playing in Birmingham later in 2011, and as a bonus related pressie, I got Journey's 1981 LP, 'Escape' and modified it to make a really funky bowl!
I made sure that I purchased 2 of these just incase the project went pear shaped at the first attempt, and I was all too aware that he would be horrified that he could not listen to in on the vinyl as it was originally intended.
Everyone's a winner!

Rediscovering pen and paper
Around the age of 8 I was very much into drawing, especially creating my own cartoon characters, mainly inspired by my HUGE Beano comic collection. I even wrote to Jimmy Saville's 'Jim'll Fix It' because I wanted to draw cartoons with Rolf Harris although I never made it on the show!
With this in mind, yesterday I put pen to paper to see if I could still draw... and I must try and find some old cartoons. I wonder what Rolf would think!?
