Plant them and they will come (aka doing The Good Life)

So it's been a long time since I last updated on the progress of the vegetables I have been growing from seed.  So here are some photos of what's been going on in our garden.

We transfered our precious baby shoots into our new freshly made bed

 
Then covered our potatos in tubs drilled with drainage holes

Watered them in

and Dusty checked our work to make sure it passed inspecion

Then suddenly... BAM.... Potato plants!

Next, to check in on the 3 varieties of carrots

and the Brussell sprouts which are currently in the process of taking over the world!

Sadly our tomatos are still small and in the shadow of our their sprouting neighbours

Meanwhile inside, the man and I are having a strawberry growing competition

Then the really exciting moment we picked out first fresh home grown vegetables

Cleaned up those babies

and sat down for a delivious sunday roast!

The difference in taste from the home grown vegetables and those you buy in supermarket chains is incredible and it's so exciting to watch your babies grow from seed to plate!

Super Dooper Spring

I love the spring time.  It's a preview of the summer and a chance to come out of hibernation and get that washing outside on the washing line at last!

With the sun shining I thought it was the perfect time to be outdoors and sew some more vegetable and herb seeds as my broccoli and sprouts from last month haven't done the best, it's time to try again.

Hopefully this year we will have delicious home grown Potatos, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Tomatos, Basil, Chives, Parsley, Sage and 3 varieties of Carrots!

There's some beautiful colours starting to show in the garden too.

Of course Dusty was on standby to help in the garden as always! :)

Then time for a snooze...

The Vegetables Cometh

The Broccoli and Sprouts were happy this morning...

but weren't so happy about being split up to grow...

I'm sure when the sun shines on them tomorrow they will smile again.
I hope so as they have a nice new home to live in when they grow big and strong...

Step 1:

 Cut back bush, flatten soil and get man to build bed!

Step 2:

Drink coffee and take photos of lovely colours in garden while man builds bed...

Step 3:

Put bed in place with help from man and dog

Step 4:

Say hello to the nosey cat from next door 

Step 5:

Stand back and admire the new veg bed

Growing Veg

This year I'm growing my own veg! 

Why should I go to the supermarket to buy my vegetables when I can grow them at home for free?! (Or just the cost of the seeds, soil etc)

We only have a small garden but I'm determined to make space to grow our favourite vegetables.

I made a start this week and have planted seeds for Broccoli and Brussel Sprouts in propagator I got from a garden centre and have Potatoes in place ready for chitting (or growing eyes).

Cor what a nice pear!

My chap loves nature and trees so for Valentines day 2009 I got him a Pear Tree!  He loves this tree and spends much time watering it and caring for it and over the last few weeks we've been keeping an eye on our very first pear!  It's actually quite exciting and I can't wait until it's ripe and juicy!  Maybe next year I should buy him a Partridge for our tree!
